Women and Children

Humboldt General Hospital is committed to providing expert and personalized care to families. We know that you need the best information possible to help yourself and your family achieve and maintain maximum health. Each month we offer several ongoing educational classes, forums and presentations on a variety of health topics. Please review our classes and events listing for specific days and times.

Childbirth Education Classes

Humboldt General Hospital hosts a Childbirth Education course designed to help mothers-to-be achieve the kind of birth they desire. Women in their fifth to eighth month of pregnancy are encouraged to attend. Childbirth Education instructor Becky Egbert will lead the discussion. Mothers and coaches are encouraged to bring a couple of pillows and to wear comfortable clothing for the instruction. Lunch and snacks are provided by Humboldt General Hospital. To cover the cost of the course, a voluntary donation is accepted, but is not required. Course will take place in a conference room at Humboldt General Hospital. Please call to pre-register at (775) 623-5222, ext. 1268. Optional Lactation and Newborn Care classes are also available.

Lactation Classes

Learn from our lactation educator, Becky Egbert, about the natural process of breastfeeding, lactation, physiology of the breast, positioning, identification of infant feeding cues, nutrition and storage of breast milk. To cover the cost of the course, a voluntary donation is accepted, but is not required. Please call to pre-register at (775) 623-5222, ext. 1268.

Newborn Care Classes

Join Childbirth Education instructor Becky Egbert as she discusses what to do after the baby is born. This class will cover feeding, sleeping, diapering, circumcision and umbilical cord care, bathing and dressing. Parents-to-be also will learn about temperament, crying and comforting techniques, behavior states and newborn communication. Healthy Year, Healthy You Seminars

Join Humboldt General Hospital for a new year of "Healthy Year, Healthy You" seminars in 2017. Each month will present a new topic designed to help you be your best you! Lunch will be provided for all participants. Usually held from noon to 1 p.m. the third Thursday of each month in the Sonoma Conference Room. However, please check the hospital's calendar for the most current date information. All ages are welcome and there is never a charge to attend.
