Hospitalists

Dedicated Professionals at Humboldt General Hospital

Humboldt General Hospital offers around-the-clock physician care to all inpatients admitted to the hospital. As patient families leave the hospital, they are even provided with a cell phone number they can call day or night to address any concerns or questions.

Additionally, Hospitalist physicians are available to discharge patients when their care is complete instead of waiting until their local physician makes his or her rounds. Humboldt General Hospital's Hospitalist program is just one more way that we are striving to improve the health and quality of life of the people in the communities we serve.

What Is a Hospitalist?

Hospitalists are internal medicine specialty physicians who care for patients admitted to the hospital. A Hospitalist’s responsibilities include:

  • Admitting patients to the hospital
  • Assessing Emergency Department patients
  • Arranging for specialty consultations
  • Referring patients to their primary health care provider for outpatient care
  • Coordinating post-hospital care for recovering patients
  • Evaluating hospital processes for improvements
  • Participating in various teams (ethics, patient placement, etc.)

At Humboldt General Hospital, our Hospitalists are crucial to providing the best care possible for our patients, and continuing to establish new, higher standards of service.

Benefits of Having a Hospitalist

Hospitalists focus on providing for each patient’s individual needs. Studies have shown that involving a Hospitalist in a patient's treatment can improve clinical outcomes and elevate the level of care a patient receives during their stay.

Your Care at Humboldt General Hospital

Hospitalists are not assigned to every patient at Humboldt General Hospital. Your personal health care provider may choose to oversee your inpatient care. Also, if a patient does not have a primary health care provider, our hospital will assign a Hospitalist to you.
