Two Princesses Born on Same Day as Future King of England

While England celebrates the birth of their future king, Humboldt County is celebrating the birth of its own little princesses Monday.

Dr. Brad Granath delivered Grace Sandoval at 1:45 p.m. Monday, July 22, at Humboldt General Hospital. She is the daughter of Bianca Bernal and Rudy Sandoval of Winnemucca and joins 11-year-old Alexis, 8-year-old Junior and 2-year-old Isabella at home.

Later that night, Dr. Granath delivered Madelyn Rose Davis at 10:51 p.m., also at Humboldt General Hospital. Madelyn is the daughter of Heather and Johnny Davis and joins 8-year-old Calvin and 13-month-old Lillian at home.

The two baby girls will forever carry the distinction of being born on the same day as the future King of England: the current Prince of Cambridge.

His Royal Highness was born at 4:24 p.m. (8:24 a.m. local time) at St. Mary's Hospital in London. He is the first child of Prince William and Kate Middleton and is third in line to the British throne behind his grandfather Charles and his father.

As to the future of Winnemucca's newest princesses, their parents simply expressed hope for a long and healthy life. Grace, who has a full head of black hair, weighed in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces and was 19 inches long. Madelyn, who may tend toward strawberry blonde hair, was 7 pounds, 5 ounces and 20-3/4 inches long.

Bianca Bernal was due July 23, but opted to be induced a day early. She arrived at the hospital around 6 a.m. and things proceeded like clockwork until Grace arrived just before 2 p.m.

Both Bianca and Rudy were delighted to share their baby's special day with a future king, but as Rudy pointed out, every baby is special and each day a new child arrives is "the best day."

Heather and Johnny also said they enjoyed the fact that their little Madelyn shared a birthday with a future world leader. Much like the Prince of Cambridge, their daughter was due last week, but delayed her coming for several days.

Heather had a doctor's appointment at 9 a.m. Monday and showed some signs of moving toward labor. By early afternoon, her labor pains began; she and Johnny began timing the contractions at 4 p.m. A 15-minute walk at 6:30 p.m. helped things pick up speed, and the couple checked into the hospital at 8 p.m. Dr. Granath broke Heather's water at 9:20 p.m. and Madelyn arrived about an hour and half later.

"Everything went great," said Heather. "We're so glad she's here."

Dr. Granath and his wife, Robin, were excited for the coinciding births. Robin said, "We just think it's so neat that these two little princesses were born on the same day as a future King of England."

She added, "That's something that they'll always remember."
