Brad Granath Named Family Physician 'Fellow'

Winnemucca physician Brad Granath has been awarded the Degree of Fellow by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). The degree was conferred during a convocation on Friday, September 23, in conjunction with the AAFP’s annual meeting in Orlando, Florida.

The AAFP Degree of Fellow was established in 1971 to recognize family physicians who have distinguished themselves through service to family medicine and ongoing professional development. Of the nearly 120,000 family physicians in the United States, this year's class of 140 fellows brings the total number of AAFP Fellows to about 14,000 nationwide.

Criteria for receiving the AAFP Degree of Fellow consist of a minimum of six years as a Family Physician, extensive continuing medical education and participation in public service programs outside of the medical practice. There is also a requirement for conducting original research and serving as a teacher in family medicine.

Dr. Granath earned his M.D. in 1985, before completing his three-year residency in Family Medicine. He became a Board-Certified Family Physician after passing a rigorous exam in 1988. Dr. Granath has maintained his board certification by taking and passing the exam every eight years.

Additionally, he completed a one year High-Risk OB Fellowship and an Academic Faculty Fellowship at the University of Washington, then served in the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington D.C. as a physician and faculty in a residency training program.

Dr. Granath’s desire to serve the medical needs of people around the world has led him to travel to India, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Africa. Dr. Granath has a special passion for delivering babies and has demonstrated a commitment to lifelong learning and service in the area of maternity care. Dr. Granath has been proud to call Winnemucca his home since 2005 when he opened his Family & Maternity Care practice. He said he enjoys every opportunity to be a part of the blessing of ushering new life into the world.

Dr. Granath recently relocated his clinic to the second floor of Humboldt General Hospital’s Rural Health Clinic. Dr. Granath said he is committed to provide excellent care with a personal touch to his patients.

Dr. Granath is currently serving as the HGH Chief of the Medical Staff and looks forward to continuing to make a positive difference in the community of Winnemucca.
