HGH EMS Rescue Announces 'CPR Training Center' Designation

HGH EMS Rescue says it is dedicated to providing even more high quality health and safety education with its new designation as an American Heart Association CPR Training Center.

Previously, the emergency services agency functioned as a “training site” under REMSA, a Reno-based ambulance company.

Now, CPR Training Center Administrator Sean Burke says HGH EMS can provide direct oversight to instructors and those seeking education such as healthcare professionals, industry and laypersons.

“Because we are an American Heart Association Training Center,” said Burke, “we are authorized to teach at all levels, and to issue course completion cards as soon as students complete the class.”

Burke said course opportunities include Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support, as well as Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training, First Aid, Heart Saver and Instructor Development courses.

The center also teaches First Responder and customized courses to meet any person or group’s specific training requirements.

All courses are conducted following the latest guidelines of the AHA.

The majority of classes will be held at Humboldt General Hospital, located at 118 E. Haskell Street. Some courses may also be held off-site depending on students’ needs and locations.

AHA Training Center Coordinator, Lieutenant David Ellis, and Lieutenant Debbie Whittaker have been working on the CPR Training Center designation for several years; last year, EMS and the hospital had to complete a “demonstration” process in order to qualify. They will be re-accredited every two years.

Burke said HGH EMS Rescue has more than a dozen instructors with diverse skill-bases in the emergency medical services field whose combined healthcare training experience exceeds 150 years.

“We feel their experience in the field, coupled with their knowledge of the topics we teach, will ensure that our participants receive the best educational experience possible,” said Burke.

He added, “We’re in a really good spot to do this.”

Courses will be offered year-round. All programs are certified by the American Heart Association, except for the Neonatal Resuscitation course, which is certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

“We are excited for this next chapter for our agency,” said Burke. “Our ultimate goal is to ensure quality programs and better outcomes.”

He continued, “We want our students to feel that they have been mentored toward the point of being able to save life and improve quality of life.”
