HGH EMS Rescue to Present 'Annual EMS Refresher'

Emergency services personnel from across the state are invited to Winnemucca to complete their continuing education requirements.

Humboldt General Hospital Emergency Medical Services Rescue will offer its “2016 Annual EMS Refresher” from Friday, November 4, through Sunday, November 6, at Humboldt General Hospital.

According to HGH EMS Rescue CPR Training Center Coordinator Sean Burke, this year’s program will offer classroom and on-site instruction for a well-rounded student experience.

“We’ve offered this refresher course since 2003,” said Burke, “and each year we step it up even more to give our participants the best information possible as they move into the new year.”

Burke said personnel from every aspect of emergency services are invited to attend, including representatives from the medical, fire, law enforcement and mining fields. “We’ve got something for everyone,” he said.

This year’s lineup will cover everything from heavy extrication and trauma to medical emergencies, obstetrics, cardiology and resuscitation. The weekend will also include plenty of hands-on field work as well as skills review. Participants are reminded to dress for the terrain and the weather.

A Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization course will also be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, November 4, at the hospital. Cost is $75 with books.

The weekend’s courses will be taught by representatives from HGH EMS Rescue.

“Each year we are focused on making our annual refresher a place where EMS providers can access the most timely information and network with other EMS agencies from across the state,” said Burke.

He added, “We are excited for this year’s program and know that each participant will go away more prepared to help those in need.”

Registration will take place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, November 4, at Humboldt General Hospital.

Participants who pre-register for the conference by Sunday, October 30, pay only $200; those who register after October 30 pay $225.

For more information or to register for the “2016 Annual EMS Refresher” presented by Humboldt General Hospital Emergency Medical Services Rescue, please call HGH EMS Rescue CPR Training Center Coordinator Sean Burke at (775) 623-5222, ext. 1378, or email burkes@hghospital.org.
