HGH EMS Rescue to 'Stuff' Ambulance with Toys for Needy Children

Humboldt General Hospital EMS Rescue is asking local residents to help stuff an ambulance full of toys.

The “Stuff an Ambulance Toy Drive” officially kicks off Saturday, December 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as crews ask shoppers to donate a new, unwrapped toy; the ambulance will be parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot near the grocery entrance.

The ambulance will continue to accept toys until “the rig is absolutely stuffed to the roof with toys,” according to HGH EMS Rescue Chief Pat Songer.

The toys will then be distributed to organizations who serve needy children throughout Humboldt County.

Songer said residents can drop a toy by the ambulance station, located next to Humboldt General Hospital, at any time.

“We know this is a time of great excitement and happiness for many,” he said, “but for others, it is a time of great anxiety and sorrow, and we want to make sure that we can bring some holiday cheer to everyone in need.”

The Stuff an Ambulance Toy Drive is being coordinated by HGH EMS Rescue Community Outreach Coordinator Fergus Laughridge.

Laughridge said crews are excited to help organize the drive for area organizations and agencies that serve the children of Humboldt County.

“We see kids in a lot of different situations—tough situations,” he said. “This is one way that we can provide a different kind of help to bring joy and holiday cheer to some local homes.”
