Immunization, Wellness Check Will Help Prepare Area Kids for School

Humboldt General Hospital is offering free immunizations to all preschool through 12th grade students during a special wellness clinic.

From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, the HGH “Immunization and Wellness Check” will take place at the new Rural Health Clinic.

Students and their parents or guardians should park in the recently constructed parking garage (enter on Mizpah Street) and take the elevators to the second floor. Alternatively, participants may park in the hospital’s main parking lot and follow the signs from the admit desk to the new clinic space.

Students will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parents/guardians should bring their child’s immunization records. Humboldt General Hospital will verify and update immunization records via the Nevada WebIZ system. Last check-in time is 4 p.m.

The wellness check is a simple health screening and does not constitute a physical exam or sports physical. For a physical exam or sports physical, or to discuss any health issues, parents or guardians should schedule an appointment with their healthcare provider.

Students will be screened for height, weight, body mass index and vision. Additionally, Dr. Len Perkinson will screen students for scoliosis.

Available vaccinations include MMR (measles, mumps and rubella); Varicella (if students have not had chicken pox); Hepatitis A; Hepatitis B; Polio; and Tdap (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis).

Additionally, all students who come will be entered into a drawing for a free iPad and keyboard.

Participants do not need to be present to win; however, an adult age 21 or older must be available to claim the prize on behalf of the youth winner.

All students will also receive a small giveaway from the hospital as a thanks for participating in the clinic.

For more information, please call the Rural Health Clinic at (775) 623-5222, ext. 2.

There is no charge to attend and all students who receive vaccinations will be given an updated WebIZ immunization report for their records.
