Women's Choice Award Again Honors Harmony Manor Skilled Nursing Facility

Harmony Manor Skilled Nursing Facility has once again been named one of America’s best nursing homes for women.

Humboldt General Hospital’s long-term care facility recently learned that it received the

Women’s Choice Award® from WomenCertified® distinguishing it as a 2016 America’s Best for Extended Care. Humboldt General Hospital was first awarded “America’s Best” status in 2013.

According to HGH CEO/Administrator Jim Parrish, the award acknowledges Harmony Manor‘s dedication to provide exceptional and compassionate care to its residents.

“Our Harmony Manor family is dedicated to creating a home for our patients where exceptional care, dignity and compassion are our uncompromising standard,” said Parrish. “We are honored to once again be an America’s Best award recipient.”

Parrish said that by carrying the Women’s Choice Award seal, Harmony Manor is recognized as a facility that women would highly recommend for their loved ones’ long-term care, rehabilitation, and nursing care needs.

Delia Passi, CEO and Founder of WomenCertified, a marketing research firm and the home of the Women’s Choice Award, said Harmony Manor qualified for this highly selective list based on an in-depth proprietary screening process.

The process utilizes data reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and identifies those facilities that provide comprehensive extended care services, and that meet criteria for resident satisfaction and excellence based on female needs and preferences.

Harmony Manor was one of 845 out of more than 15,000 facilities nationwide to receive the award. The recognized facilities have 25 or more beds, and have received at least 18 combined stars in the four categories determined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) five-star rating system.

The CMS categories are: general staffing, RN staffing, quality rating and inspection survey rating. Awarded facilities must also have a Medicare certification, full sprinkler systems and no recent history of penalties or fines.

“One of the hardest decisions a woman will ever have to make is to choose a nursing home or extended care facility for a loved one,” said Passi. “Reducing the risk of making the wrong healthcare choice is our mission.”

According to Harmony Manor/Quail Corner Director of Nursing Robin Gillis, “Our goal has always been to be a five star facility because those five stars indicate that we are providing the best quality of life that we can for our residents.”

Gillis added, “We strive to be survey ready on any given day. We always want to be caring for our residents at that level.”

Parrish said the entire Harmony Manor operation, from nurses to nurses’ aides, housekeeping and dietary staff and the activities staff, is focused on making residents’ stays as pleasant and rewarding as possible.

He continued, “This isn’t about simply providing housing and medical care for people, it’s about providing a quality of life that engages residents and helps them continue to grow and enjoy life while safeguarding their health, dignity and privacy.”

Parrish added, “This rewarding environment is especially meaningful to women who have singled out Harmony Manor as one of the nation’s best nursing homes.”

Gillis, who has supervised the facility for nearly 10 years, said she is deeply appreciative for what’s happening at Harmony Manor—success that she wholeheartedly attributes to her staff.

“I am most proud of the staff that we have. It just takes a certain individual to work with geriatrics,” she said. “My staff is here because they want to be; they truly care about the residents. I can see it in every one of them.”

As a five-star CMS facility, Harmony Manor offers 24-hour nursing care and immediate access to primary, specialty and emergency physician care, on-site physical and occupational therapy, on-site licensed social worker, a full slate of in-house and off-campus activities, full nutrition services, faith services, access to grooming resources that help residents maintain their preferred personal appearance, a warm and caring relationship with the facility’s staff family, and more.
