Annual Community Health Fair This Saturday, March 18

The Winnemucca Host Lions Club will once again team up with Humboldt General Hospital to sponsor the 2017 Community Health Fair.

From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, local residents are invited to take advantage of the many health services that will be available at the East Hall of the Winnemucca Convention Center.

This year, four different blood screenings will be available through Humboldt General Hospital.

A comprehensive blood chemistry panel will offer a complete lipid profile, a group of tests that may help determine risk of coronary heart disease, for $35.

Additionally, HGH will offer a prostate blood test (for men only), a TSH blood test, which screens for thyroid disorders, and a glycohemoglobin A1c diabetes screen. All three tests are $20 each.

Participants are reminded to fast for at least eight hours prior to testing; water, coffee and meds are OK.

Free screenings for blood pressure, pulmonary function, body fat/BMI and vision will be available.

A variety of other booths offering health- and safety-related information also will be set up.

Fair organizers say each year the event offers more and more information and services for local residents, and they don't expect this year to be any different.

Last year, approximately 500 people attended the fair, including nearly 300 people who took advantage of the low-cost blood screenings.
