Hospital Auxiliary Celebrates Volunteer Accomplishments

May 16, volunteers from the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary were honored for their service during an awards banquet at the Winnemucca Convention Center.

In all, Auxiliary members were recognized for donating 13,016 volunteer hours to the organization through Fiscal Year 2016-2017, either through service at the Poke & Peek Thrift Shop (the group’s primary source of income) or through inservice hours at Humboldt General Hospital, special project hours or meeting hours.

Following a delicious dinner, members were individually honored for hitting new milestones, including: Micayla Dietrick, Kandice Mendiola, Pam Schubert and Lee Westling – 100-hour pin; Teresa Estrada – 500-hour pin; Margaret Patchett – 1,000-hour pin; Alicia Cramer, Marty Cramer, Susan Glenn and Susan Harrer – 2,000-hour pin; Joe Gough – 5,000-hour pin; Diane Kearns – 12,104 hours; and, Dorothy Fiske, 17390 hours.

Additionally, Joy Dahlka was honored Tuesday night as an "Honorary Life Member" of the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary. Awards Committee Chair Maggie Williams told the group that Dahlka volunteers at Humboldt General Hospital’s Harmony Manor Skilled Nursing and Residential Care Community and the Quail Corner Life Enrichment Community several times each week as well as filling in wherever needed in other areas of the hospital.

Dahlka also attends meetings, helps with production and distribution of the Auxiliary’s newsletter, and sends cards to members in need of a pick-me-up.

Williams said, "Joy is the first to volunteer whenever we need help; she is amazing in how she just keeps going and going!"

Another volunteer, Susan Glenn, was also honored Tuesday with an "Angel of the Poke" award by Poke & Peek Chair Susan Harrer who recognized Glenn for her untiring dedication and care toward the shop that provides the all-volunteer group with its revenue.

Given the chance to share some thoughts, Glenn said, "Believe me, it is a team effort. I do put in a lot of hours but it is extremely rewarding. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do."

Since 1968, the Auxiliary has donated 417,480 hours and $2.5 million to the hospital.

The group is always looking for more volunteers. To find out more, please call Humboldt General Hospital at (775) 623-5222 or call the Poke & Peek Thrift Shop during business hours at (775) 623-2076.
