Cribs for Kids

Between the years 2007 and 2010, 111 Nevada infants died from sleep-related causes before reaching their first birthday. For sure, SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, was a contributing risk factor in those deaths. That is so sad; what's more, it's unacceptable. But there is something we can do to help drive down Nevada's infant mortality rates and help every baby sleep safer. This Thursday, August 8, from noon to 3 p.m. there will be a special "Cribs for Kids Train the Trainer" meeting at the ambulance station. The "Cribs for Kids" program seeks to identify agencies that are willing to help promote safe sleep education and practices. Partnering agencies will receive Safe Sleep Survival Kits, which include a Graco Pack N Play, crib sheet, Halo Sleep Pack and pacifier, for distribution to community residents. Agencies should register with the Safe Kids Washoe County "Cribs for Kids" program before Thursday's training, though, by emailing rwashington@remsa-cf.com. This will allow "Cribs for Kids" to provide agencies with survival kits and brochures in English and Spanish immediately following the training. Please respond with the following information: name, agency name, title, address and phone number, or call (775) 232-7949. Bring you own lunch and tell others to come, too. We need as many educated and willing advocates out there as we can get. After all, this is for Nevada's babies.
