Lowry High School asked Dr. Leonard Perkinson if he would be willing to
make a presentation to their Parent-Teacher-Student Organization last
week. The topic was "Your Teen's Health: What You Need to Know,"
and it was, in a word, fabulous. He shared general information about teenage
health and then entertained over an hour's worth of questions, providing
great counsel and aid to parents in their individual situations. He obviously
has a love for the youth and the parents could feel that. Dr. P. has only
been in the community for a year, but he is no stranger to Lowry High
School, or to this community, for that matter. In fact, it was amazing
to see how many different connections he had with people as they came
in. There were those who were connected with this week's "Every
15 Minutes" presentation at the high school; he's involved. There
were some involved with the Rotary Club of Winnemucca; he's not only
involved, he's the next president! There were some with the Rachel's
Challenge anti-bullying initiative; he's aware and wants to be involved.
There were those involved with Lowry High School athletics; he's very
involved. Community athletics? Absolutely. And the list goes on and on.
There's an old adage that says, "They don't care how much
you know until they know how much you care." Dr. P. could be the
poster boy for that slogan. He truly cares, and it shows. Kudos to Len
Perkinson; we're so glad you came to our community.
