On Tuesday, January 15, we held our first Community Forum. Humboldt General Hospital Quality/Risk Management Director Nora Andersen came up with the idea to host the meeting last fall after witnessing residents' and hospital board members' frustration at not being able to adequately discuss questions or issues during regularly scheduled board meetings. Nora said she wanted to give people a place where they could get answers right away, or at least begin the process to put their issues to rest.
Tuesday's meeting drew about 15 members of our community to HGH. It was a good group with some complaints, some praise and some suggestions for improved processes. The meeting also included a brief presentation regarding the various procedures the hospital has in place to address suggestions, complaints, praise or problems from patients, visitors, employees and/or community members. Those include HGH's Patient Complaint Form, a Comment Card, a Website Feedback Form, the Transparency Team and "Qualitick," a new real-time patient survey that is currently being tested in ER.
The group also heard updates from several departments including Patient Access, IT, EMS, Clinic Services and Wellness. Our CEO/Administrator Jim Parrish also updated the group on the New Patient Wing/Remodel project. Everyone enjoyed our delicious hospital cookies and punch, and hopefully those in attendance came away with some new information, and a great idea of how to share their feedback in the future. Thanks to our hospital managers and our community members for a good, positive exchange.
