Humboldt General Hospital's Diabetes Support Group will teach those
with diabetes how to care for their feet next month.
"Foot Care and Diabetes" will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30
p.m. Wednesday, June 5, in the hospital's Sonoma conference room.
There is no charge to attend, and all ages are welcome.
The American Diabetes Association estimates that one in five people with
diabetes who seek hospital care do so for foot problems.
People with diabetes are more vulnerable to foot problems because diabetes
can damage nerves and reduce blood flow to feet, making it harder to heal
an injury or resist infection.
Diabetics, pre-diabetics, caregivers and those who are interested in preventing
diabetes are invited to learn more.
June's discussion will be led by Humboldt General Hospital Director
of Nutrition and Dietary Services Tiffani Nalivka.
