Students at French Ford Middle school and residents of Harmony Manor are working together to bridge the gap between today’s youth and older adults. Students in Lila Wilkin's fifth-grade class make monthly trips to Harmony Manor to visit with residents and to do fun crafts and activities. Mrs. Wilkin said some of the students were initially very reserved about taking part in the activity, "but now look at them," she said during a recent gathering. "They are excited; they teach me so much!" For their part, the residents love the activities with the youth. Evelyn Wagoner, who has lived at Harmony Manor for 10 years, said the exchange is great for the residents and the children. Dorothy Brinkoetter said her friend, a resident, rarely participates in any social activities, "but this draws her out," she said. "She loves being with the youth." Who wouldn't? Check out these cute kids and wonderful Mrs. Wilkin. Humboldt General Hospital is so grateful to Mrs. Wilkin, her students and French Ford Middle School for their great partnership. Thank you!
