Jen Unruh has joined Humboldt General Hospital as its newest provider.
The nurse practitioner opened her own medical clinic October 1, accomplishing
a longtime dream to help others by combining her knowledge, creativity,
relationship-building skills and, perhaps most importantly, her empathy.
"HGH is a wonderful place," she said. "I've been offered
an ideal clinic situation where I have both autonomy and support."
Unruh said the community was hard to beat, too, with a safe, caring environment
and lots of opportunities to become involved.
"Those things are very important to me," said Unruh, "and
were influential in making my decision to come here."
Unruh graduated with her bachelor of science in nursing from Idaho State
University in 2008; a masters of nursing with a family nurse practitioner
option followed in 2013.
Unruh is married to Josh, the newest Intensive Care Unit nurse at HGH.
Their three children include nine-year-old Kaden, six-year-old Alexandria,
and two-year-old Kiryana.
As a family nurse practitioner, Unruh provides primary care to patients
across the lifespan. Unruh's clinic will focus on patient care in
three areas: pediatrics, women's health and adult medicine. Unruh
said she is also looking forward to the relationship-building aspect of
"It is even more enjoyable in the family practice role where I can
become acquainted with entire families."
Regardless of the individual circumstances of her patients, Unruh said
she is most passionate about providing education about disease processes,
medications, the growth and development of a child, "and anything
else that will help my patients better understand and take a more active
role in their health."
Unruh said, "I believe that most people will make better decisions
for their health when armed with adequate and accurate information."
Unruh's clinic is located in Suite E of the hospital's new medical
office building, located at 118 E. Haskell Street in Winnemucca. Her office
is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please call (775)
