Hospital Auxiliary to Host Northern Nevada Spring Conference

The Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary will host volunteers from across northern Nevada this Wednesday, April 30, at the Winnemucca Convention Center.

The Northern Nevada Association of Hospital Auxiliaries and Volunteers annual spring conference is under the direction of HHA members Judy Adams and Kay Austin.

Together the two have marshaled support from the more than 100-member group to plan and carry out a fun and informative conference using the theme: "Honoring the Past, Looking Toward the Future."

According to Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary President Joe McIntyre, the group is expecting about 75 hospital auxiliary members and volunteers from seven other communities.

A "Meet and Greet" will take place Tuesday evening at the Winnemucca Inn.

The following day, the group will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Winnemucca Convention Center for meetings and workshops. The event will also include a shopping trip to the Poke & Peek Thrift Shop—which serves as the group's main fundraising source.

There, volunteers sort, price, display and sell clothing, toys, books and household items. Other volunteers help out at Harmony Manor and within the hospital itself.

Since the Auxiliary's inception in May 1968, members have donated over 300,000 recorded hours and $2.3 million to Humboldt General Hospital—money that has purchased everything from hospital beds to surgical equipment to partial funding for an ambulance for HGH EMS Rescue.

"Our members have invested a great deal of time planning this event," said McIntyre, "and under their direction, we have no doubt it will be a great success."

McIntyre said the hospital auxiliaries meet each spring by region, and each fall as a state. Winnemucca will host the state conference in October 2015.
