So here's a jaw-dropping piece of news: Humboldt General Hospital's EMS Rescue team beat out New York City Fire (and 13 other teams) during an EMS competition hosted during the EMS Today Conference & Exposition in Washington, D.C. February 5-8. The JEMS Games introduce competitors and audiences to new techniques and technology that can be used to manage patients at all levels of care. The competition also enables participants to share their expertise, experience, techniques and technology with EMS colleagues from throughout the world. And our team took fifth place overall, beating out the reigning champions (NYC Fire) AND London Ambulance (one of the world's best . . . they vetted 60 teams just to send one team). It was the Cumberland County, North Carolina EMS team that walked away with first-place honors among the field of 19 competitors, but we just want Lieutenant Louis Mendiola and Captains Lacy Constable and Monique Rose to know that they are true champs in our eyes. They did an amazing job showing how we do it in north-central Nevada, and we are proud!
