Turkey Trotters Invited to Raise Alzheimer's Awareness During Fun Run

Local residents are invited to kick off Thanksgiving with a fun run while raising Alzheimer's awareness.

The "Up & AATT 'Em" Alzheimer's Awareness Turkey Trot will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday, November 27, at Lowry High School.

The 3K/5K/8K race will send participants through area neighborhoods before they return to Jerry Tobin Field for a final victory lap.

The event will include vendors, photos, prizes from a variety of local businesses and individuals, and pompoms!

All in all, organizer Gini Cunningham said the fun run is the perfect family outing and way to start Thanksgiving.

Cunningham, a local Alzheimer's advocate and the facilitator of the Alzheimer's Support Group, said Alzheimer's and other dementias can rob families of their sense of togetherness.

"So as we raise awareness for these diseases, this is a great time to celebrate our families on this special day."

Cost to participate is $25 and includes a long-sleeve Trotter t-shirt.

To register, please contact Gini Cunningham via email at gini.cunningham25@gmail.com or call (775) 304-2899. Information is also available by visiting www.lovedignityalzheimers.net.

All proceeds will stay locally to benefit Alzheimer's education and family respite care.

The "Up & AATT 'Em" Alzheimer's Awareness Turkey Trot is sponsored in part by Humboldt General Hospital.
