Emergency services personnel from across the state are invited to Winnemucca
to complete their continuing education requirements.
Humboldt General Hospital Emergency Medical Services will offer its "2014
Annual EMS Refresher" from Friday, October 31, through Sunday, November
2, at Humboldt General Hospital.
According to HGH EMS Rescue Education Coordinator David Ellis, this year's
program will offer classroom and on-site instruction for a well-rounded
"We've offered this 24-hour refresher course since 2003,"
said Ellis, "and each year we step it up even more to give our participants
the best information possible as they move into the new year."
Ellis said personnel from every aspect of emergency services are invited
to attend, including representatives from the medical, fire, law enforcement
and mining fields. "We've got something for everyone," he said.
This year's lineup covers everything from CPR for healthcare providers,
ropes rescue, and heavy extrication, to the latest information for EMS
professionals on obstetrics and pediatrics. Participants are reminded
to dress for the terrain and the weather.
A Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) course will
also be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, October 31, at the hospital.
Cost is $50 without books and $100 with books.
Courses will be taught by representatives from HGH EMS Rescue.
"Each year we are focused on making our annual refresher a place where
EMS providers can access the most timely information and network with
other EMS agencies from across the state," said Ellis.
He added, "We are excited for this year's program and know that
each participant will go away more prepared to help those in need."
Registration will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, October 31, at Humboldt

pay only $175; those who register after October 27 pay $200.
