Diabetes Support Group Discussion to Focus on Heart Health

Humboldt General Hospital's Diabetes Support Group will discuss "Living a Heart Healthy Life" next Wednesday.

The group will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, in the hospital's Sonoma conference room; Humboldt General Hospital Nutritional Services Director Tiffani Nalivka will facilitate the evening's discussion.

Diabetics, pre-diabetics, caregivers and those who are interested in preventing diabetes are invited to attend.

Nalivka said heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease.

"But there is good news," she said. "Heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and manage their health conditions."

She added, "This month's discussion will provide a great overview of this disease and how it affects our bodies."

The Diabetes Support Group is open to people of all ages; there is no charge to attend.
