In the last five years, Echo Mathews' name and title have seen quite
a few changes.
She has gone from being Echo Chabot of Paradise Valley to Echo Chabot,
RN to Echo Mathews, RN to Echo Mathews, FNP.
Now, as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Mathews will take on the
title of "provider" for Humboldt General Hospital as she launches
her own clinic.
Mathews is no stranger to Humboldt General Hospital. After graduating from
Lowry High School, she attended the University of Nevada Reno where she
received her Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
Upon her return to Humboldt County in 2009 and her marriage to Andy Mathews,
she began working in the HGH Emergency Department; she has served there
for the past five years as a staff nurse.
In 2011, Mathews decided to return to UNR to seek a Master of Science in
Nursing, FNP. Coincidentally, the soon-to-be family nurse practitioner
became a mother herself just two short months before beginning her advanced studies.
"Both my husband and child were hugely supportive of me being in school,"
said Mathews, "and I wouldn't have been able to succeed if it
weren't for them."
That's one of the reasons Mathews is looking forward to opening her
clinic: to give back to a community that she says has supported her as well.
"I have a very strong tie to this community," she said, "and
I feel that it is important that I give back to this community the support
that they have given me."
She continued, "I am here to help provide a service that I know is
greatly needed in this town. My goal is to be there for each of my patients
and to help them as best I can."
Humboldt General Hospital Chief of Staff Leonard Perkinson, M.D., said
Mathews is already a welcome addition to the local family practice staff.
"She's done amazingly well," he said. "She's going
to be a wonderful addition to the community as a provider."
Humboldt General Hospital CEO/Administrator Jim Parrish echoed Dr. Perkinson's
"This is such a great success story—both for Echo and for us,"
he said. "We can't think of a better fit for our community and
our hospital than to have a provider who was raised here, who knows the
people, who loves the area, and who wants to make a difference."
He continued, "That is just a great combination, and we feel very
lucky to have Echo working with us."
Mathews will practice adult medicine upstairs in Suite G of Humboldt General
Hospital's medical office building, located at 118 E. Haskell Street.
Her office hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The office
is closed for lunch from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
