You’ve heard it before: If you want to lose weight, just eat less
and exercise more.
However, that simple guidance isn’t nearly enough for most people,
says Humboldt General Hospital Nutrition Services Director Tiffani Nalivka.
“Many people want a plan, a strategy, words of wisdom to inspire
them, and a surefire routine they can fall back on in moments of weakness,”
she said. “That’s why the diet industry has ballooned to an
amazing $58 billion dollars.”
This Thursday, Nalivka will review the most popular diets buzzing through
bookstores, magazines and television shows as part of the next installment
of Humboldt General Hospital’s 2015 “Healthy Year, Healthy
You” seminar series.
“The Slim-Down on Popular Diets” will take place from noon
to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the Sonoma Conference Room. There is no
charge to attend, and lunch will be served.
Nalivka said she will extract the hype surrounding the most popular diets
and review them from the standpoint of sound nutrition—the kind
of nutrition that will help people experience “lasting success.”
Nalivka will be joined by new HGH Wellness Coordinator Billie Lucero. Lucero
takes over from Louis Mendiola, who is now the hospital’s Health
System Development Manager.
May’s seminar continues a year-long series of “Healthy Year,
Healthy You” presentations aimed at helping local residents achieve
a greater state of wellness.
All presentations are held from noon to 1 p.m. on the third Thursday of
each month. There is never a charge to attend and lunch is always served.
