Thank You, Mr. Cook, for Your Leadership

I just wanted to take a few minutes to bring you up to speed on a very exciting new project that hospital personnel will be pursuing starting in August.

A committee made up of HGH’s management team, Vice Chief of Staff Len Perkinson, nurse anesthetist Mark Reyka and board trustee Richard Cook will be working on accreditation for Humboldt General Hospital.

This is basically an independent third party that evaluates hospitals to assure that the hospital is embracing “best practices” throughout the organization.

This is a project that the management team (comprised primarily of HGH Chief Nursing Officer Darlene Bryan, HGH Administrative Director Pat Songer and myself) have discussed in the recent past. However, the timing was never right to move ahead—until now.

Not only is the time right, and we are excited, but we also have a champion on the board. Trustee Richard Cook brought the idea forward at the most recent board meeting and recommended that we pursue accreditation. I want to thank Mr. Cook for his leadership regarding this process.

There are several organizations that do accreditation; however, the Joint Commission on Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (recently changed to JC) is the gold standard, as Mr. Cook correctly pointed out at the board meeting. The committee will review the various alternatives and make a recommendation to the board by the end of September.

I just wanted to send a big “Thank You” to Mr. Cook for his leadership on this issue! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
