Diabetes Support Group to Focus on Heart Health

Humboldt General Hospital’s Diabetes Support Group will discuss “On Your Way to a Healthy Heart” on Wednesday.

The group will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, in the hospital’s Sonoma conference room; Humboldt General Hospital Wellness Coordinator Billie Lucero will facilitate the evening’s discussion.

The Diabetes Support Group is open to people with diabetes, prediabetes, caregivers and those who are interested in preventing diabetes; there is no charge to attend, and all ages are welcome.

Lucero said heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease.

“But there is good news,” she said. “Heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and manage their health conditions.”

She added, “This month’s discussion will provide a great overview of this disease and how it affects our bodies.”

The Diabetes Support Group is open to people of all ages; there is no charge to attend.
