Humboldt General Hospital’s Diabetes Support Group will discuss the
“MyPlate Method” of nutrition this week.
The group will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in
the hospital’s Sonoma conference room; Humboldt General Hospital
Wellness Coordinator Billie Lucero will facilitate the evening’s
discussion.
The Diabetes Support Group is open to people with diabetes, prediabetes,
caregivers and those who are interested in preventing diabetes; there
is no charge to attend, and all ages are welcome.
Lucero said the “MyPlate Method” was developed by the United
States Department of Agriculture as a way to help people find their own
healthy eating style and build it throughout their lifetimes.
Lucero said Wednesday’s discussion will focus on the variety, amount
and nutrition of food. She will also discuss how to choose foods and beverages
with less saturated fat, sodium and added sugars, how to start with small
changes to build a healthier eating style, and how to support healthy
eating for everyone.
“Eating healthy is a journey shaped by many factors,” said
Lucero, “like our stage of life, situations, preferences, access
to food, culture, traditions, and the personal decisions we make over
time.”
“All our food and beverage choices count,” she added, “so
it’s very important to have good nutrition information so we know
how to choose wisely.”
The Diabetes Support Group is open to people of all ages; there is no charge
to attend.
