Clearing Up Misconceptions

It appears from reading our local newspaper and from comments on the street that there is a misconception regarding the proposed strategic plan for Humboldt General Hospital.

Allow me to clarify a couple of points: First, the proposed strategic plan presented by me at the May 14, 2016 hospital board retreat is simply that: PROPOSED. It is my job to have knowledge of healthcare trends and where (in my opinion) HGH needs to go in order to appropriately serve this community. These proposed plans were presented to the board for their consideration. They are currently under review by the board for their approval, revision or rejection. The board has the ultimate say in what direction this hospital takes in order to serve this community.

Second: There appears to be some confusion regarding the purchase of a portion of Vesco City Park by the hospital. This idea has been discussed for several years between the hospital and the City of Winnemucca. No decisions have been made by either party and there are strong feelings on both sides of the issue. The City of Winnemucca has not offered any of Vesco City Park to the hospital. Further, the hospital has not offered to purchase any portion of Vesco City Park. Just like any transaction, there must be a willing seller and a willing buyer. Should this idea come to the forefront, a great deal of public discussion will occur.

Lastly, let me state that your hospital and every hospital across the country is operating within a sea of change. This is not easy for the hospital or the patients that we serve. I agree with a previous writer that encouraged citizens to attend board meetings. This includes attendance at our retreat as well. Investing two days in learning and understanding the healthcare industry may clear up some confusion.
