Local residents are invited to kick off Thanksgiving with a fun run while
raising Alzheimer’s awareness.
The fourth annual “Up & AATT ‘Em” Alzheimer’s
Awareness Turkey Trot will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday, November 23, at Lowry
High School. A Pre-Race Rally begins at 7:30 a.m.
The 3K, 5K and 8K fun walk/run will send participants through area neighborhoods
before they return to Jerry Tobin Field for a final victory lap.
All in all, organizer Gini Cunningham said the fun run is the perfect family
outing and way to start Thanksgiving.
Cunningham, a local Alzheimer’s advocate and the facilitator of the
Alzheimer’s Support Group, said Alzheimer’s and other dementias
can rob families of their sense of togetherness.
“So as we raise awareness for these diseases, this is a great time
to celebrate our families on this special day.”
Cost to participate is $30 for ages 13 and older; $25 for groups of 5+;
$15 for ages 5-12; and kids ages 5 and under get in free. All paid participants
will receive a long-sleeve Trotter t-shirt, and teams are welcome. To
register, please contact Gini Cunningham via email at
gini.cunningham@sbcglobal.net or
www.lovedignityalzheimers.net.
All proceeds stay locally to help provide respite and education on Alzheimer’s
disease and other dementias.
