Beginning in November, Humboldt General Hospital will become the newest
venue on the Division of Welfare and Support Services calendar.
Each month, Cyndi Carpluk, a DWSS eligibility worker, stations at different
community venues throughout Humboldt County to help residents complete
Medicaid and other applications.
HGH has agreed to host Carpluk three days each month—a decision that
Business Office and Patient Access Department Manager Shauna Barsanti
said will be a great benefit to patients.
“One of our biggest jobs is helping patients find the right financial
resources to cover their medical care,” she said. “This new
partnership with DWSS is going to be such a big help.”
She added, “Having a rep onsite who can help patients complete Medicaid
applications will expedite the entire process.”
Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that helps with medical costs
for some people with limited income and resources. Medicaid also offers
benefits not normally covered by Medicare, like nursing home care and
personal care services.
As one of 60 DWSS eligibility workers who travel throughout the state to
provide assistance, Carpluk’s role will be to walk potential Medicaid
recipients through the application process.
Beginning in November, Carpluk will be available at Humboldt General Hospital
during normal business hours on Monday, November 13; Wednesday, November
15; and Wednesday, November 29.
Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis; there is no
charge for the service.
