Looking for a Quick and Easy Solution to Exercise? 'Healthy You' Can Help

If you’re one of the millions of Americans who makes a New Year’s resolution to exercise more—and then watches as your best intentions fall to the wayside—you’re not alone.

While the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) advise adults to get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate to intense aerobic activity, nearly 80 percent of Americans don’t meet those recommendations.

“Luckily, we can help,” says Humboldt General Hospital Wellness Coordinator Billie Lucero. “There are plenty of great ways to sneak more exercise into your day—without actually feeling like it’s exercise.”

From noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, February 15, Humboldt General Hospital will welcome local physical therapist Chad Backus who will present: “20 Hacks: How to Sneak More Exercise Into Your Day.”

The free lunch presentation is the first in the 2018 lineup of “Healthy Year, Healthy You” seminars that take place on the third Thursday of each month.

All presentations are held in the hospital’s Sarah Winnemucca Conference Room. There is no charge to attend, and all ages are welcome.

This month, Lucero said all participants will be entered into a drawing for one of three tote bags filled with National Heart Month giveaways.

“This is going to be a fun hour together,” she said, “but we also want our guests to leave better prepared to guard their heart health by making small but important decisions in how they choose to move.”
