HGH 'Fit Kids' Summer Program Designed to Get Kids Moving

Humboldt General Hospital is hoping to get kids moving this summer.

The facility, located at 118 E. Haskell Street, has announced the return of “Fit Kids,” a fun summer program for kids ages 3 to 12.

The program will include five events over the summer—all designed to get kids off the couch and into healthy activities.

Humboldt General Hospital Wellness Coordinator Billie Lucero said the program is meant to be engaging, but she’s also hoping youth will leave with lifelong health lessons as well.

“This is all about the kids having fun,” said Lucero, “but it’s also about teaching kids what fitness means, and how they can begin now to make fitness a very important part of their lives.”

The summer schedule will include:

  • 10:30-12:30 a.m. Thursday, June 21: Obstacle Course and Car Seat Checkpoint at Pioneer Park. Plus the Winnemucca Fire Department will be there so participants might get wet!
  • 9:00-10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28: Walking Challenge at Lowry High School
  • 9:00-10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 12: Zumba for Kids at Highland Park
  • 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19: Bowling at Spare Time Bowling Center (Limited to the first 72 kids to show up. Participants should bring socks; shoe rental included)
  • 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 26: Swimming and BBQ at Memorial Pool (Participants should bring a swimming suit. The first 100 kids to show up get in)

Lucero said kids will receive one raffle ticket for every event they attend.

“Then on July 26 at our final event, we’ll hold a drawing and give away brand new bikes to one boy and one girl,” she said.

Parents and/or guardians must chaperone their youth at each event. Pre-registration is not necessary, and there is no charge to attend.
