Humboldt General Hospital Welcomes Internal Medicine Specialist

Rommel Adajar’s time as a physician can be summed up in two words: diverse experience.

The new Internal Medicine specialist at Humboldt General Hospital not only has served many years as a primary care physician, but also as a hospitalist, internist, and medical director. That combination, says HGH Interim CEO Karen Cole, is proving to be a solid fit for Humboldt County’s 18 and older community.

“We feel very fortunate to have this newly formed relationship with Dr. Adajar,” said Cole, “and we know our patients, staff and community will benefit greatly from his education, experience and expertise.”

Dr. Adajar comes to Winnemucca most recently from Iowa where he served in both outpatient and inpatient capacities.

The new doctor, whose first day at HGH was Monday, October 7, said he is very happy to now head up the HGH Internal Medicine Clinic with its associated opportunities to help patients lead healthier lives.

“As physicians, we are trained to treat diseases,” he said, “but preventing disease from even happening is more important.”Dr. Adajar graduated with a bachelor of science in biology before graduating from medical school—both at the University of the Philippines. He completed his internship at Philippine General Hospital—a level three trauma center with 1,200 beds—before moving to the United States, where he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at State University of New York. Since graduation from residency, Dr. Adajar has served patients in many diverse capacities. One thing has remained consistent, however: his desire to provide exceptional patient care.

“I make caring for my patients my top priority, whether it be during their clinic visits or when they are admitted to the hospital," said Dr. Adajar.

Dr. Adajar also helps patients manage their many chronic conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, COPD, and more.

“Patients want to know they have a friend and professional who can give them good advice in how to manage their health,” he said, adding “I am very happy to be that person for them at Humboldt General Hospital. I look forward to serving the medical needs of the community.”

Dr. Adajar has signed a long-term contract with Humboldt General Hospital, and will be an active participant on the HGH Medical Staff.

He and his wife have three children: a daughter at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine; a son at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and a daughter at the Davidson Academy on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
