This year’s Free Sports Physicals will change locations, but the
dedicated care by Humboldt General Hospital’s providers will remain the same.
The 2020 exams will take place beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at
Lowry High School.
This is the 12th year that HGH has offered free sports physicals to all
Lowry High School, McDermitt High School, Winnemucca Junior High School
and Humboldt County youth sports organization athletes who will participate
in school-sanctioned or community sports.
Additionally, any other youth in need of a physical examination for other
activities such as scouting is invited to participate.
The sports physicals come courtesy of HGH providers and are designed to
detect any condition that may increase a student’s risk of injury
or illness while participating or competing in his or her sport. If a
student is deemed to require further examination, he or she will be referred
to a physician who can provide appropriate follow-up.
High school youth are required to have a new physical every two years beginning
with students’ Freshmen year; students who are beginning a sport
in their Sophomore or Senior years also are welcome to participate as
follows: Freshmen students – 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Junior students
– 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Sophomore and Senior students – 11 a.m.
to 12 p.m.; Junior High and Community Youth students – 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Each youth and one guardian from the same household should line up at their
designated time at the appointed entrance to Lowry High School; a minimum
of six feet of social distance should apply between members of different
All participants will be screened before entering the school for fever
and COVID-like symptoms and exposure; any person who exhibits signs of
illness will be asked to leave. Facial coverings for all students and
guardians are mandatory.
Students will be served on a first-come, first-served basis; no appointments
will be scheduled. Last check-in for the day is 1:30 p.m.
Free physicals are only offered during each year’s sports physical
clinic and are not available free of charge from HGH providers at any
Humboldt General Hospital will provide copies of the NIAA sports physical
form that students will need. Other students, such as scouts, will need
to bring their respective forms.
