HGH Screening Clinic Will Move to Main Hospital Campus

Local residents experiencing respiratory illness, including COVID-19 symptoms, will now be screened at the main hospital campus.

Beginning Monday, May 4, the HGH Screening Clinic will temporarily occupy the Walk-In Clinic space, while the Walk-In Clinic will move to Suite A, the clinic closest to the hospital’s main admit desk.

HGH Practice Administrator Robert Johnson said officials made the decision to centralize care for patients at the main hospital to help provide increased infection control; easier access to diagnostic services; and, perhaps most important, greater facility for patients.

“These patients are ill,” said Johnson. “They do not feel good, and we hope this change will help them have a more comfortable and a more efficient care experience.”

Once patients arrive at the clinic, they should call (775) 623-5222, ext. 1379, to alert staff, and then wait in their vehicle. Once notified to enter, they should use the ramp entrance from Mizpah Street.

Patients will be screened alone. Minor patients and those who require assistance may be accompanied by a family member or aide.

The screening clinic is for anyone experiencing respiratory illness or COVID-19 symptoms, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, stomach upset and/or diarrhea.

The healthcare provider will provide diagnosis and treatment, including medication prescriptions; orders for respiratory, radiology and/or laboratory testing; recommendations for level of care (including home care and possible self-isolation); and/or testing for COVID-19; all patients who are experiencing respiratory illness should avoid the hospital and go directly to the HGH Screening Clinic.

After hours and on weekends, patients who have severe symptoms of fever, cough or difficulty breathing should call Humboldt General Hospital’s Emergency Department at (775) 623-5222, ext. 1240, to speak with a staff member prior to entering the hospital building.

The HGH Walk-In Clinic will now be located in Suite A on the hospital’s main floor. Patients may access the clinic through the hospital’s main entrance; hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The HGH Screening Clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; the clinic closes for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.
