Self-pay patients at Humboldt General Hospital may see some changes to
their billing account.
HGH converted to a new Electronic Health Record software system on November
11, 2019. While this has brought wonderful new changes to our hospital,
our billing system prior to the conversion did not merge with new billingsystem
If you have a self-pay balance for healthcare services received prior to
November 11, 2019, you will receive a billing statement from Legacy Billing System.
If you have a self-pay balance for healthcare services received on or after
November 11, 2019, you will receive a billing statement from Cerner RevWorks.
We are changing to a new system which will eventually allow these two systems
to merge. During the transition, however, you will receive a billing statement
from each company, each month.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Self-Pay Balance?
A self-pay balance is the money a patient owes for hospital and physician
services as a result of having no insurance, or having a balance due even
after insurance pays, due to co-insurance, deductibles, or non-covered services.
Why can't HGH simply send me one billing statement?
HGH’s goal is to produce a merged statement from both billing systems,
but because the systems do not “speak” the same computer language,
we must convert information from both systems to another system that can
help. We regret the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and
How long will it take to change to the new system?
We anticipate that merging the two billing systems will take several months.
Until then, you will receive separate billing statements for self-pay
balances incurred prior to and after November 11, 2019.
Will my payment be split between the two systems?
No. Because the two systems are not compatible, we must ask that you make
a payment to each billing statement each month.
What if I only make payments on one billing statement each month?
If you only make payments to one of the two billing statements each month,
the non-paid company will eventually find you in default and refer you
to a collection agency. It is very important that you make a payment to
both billing statements each month.
Why am I receiving statements from other providers and groups?
Humboldt General Hospital only sends out billing statements for the services
it provides, including those rendered by HGH-employed healthcare providers.
You may receive billing statements from non-HGH healthcare providers,
including ER physicians, laboratory pathologists, radiologists, orthopedic
and surgical specialists, visiting specialists and more. For questions
about those billing statements, please refer to the contact information
for that specific provider or group.
