Powerful Healthcare Access Through Humboldt General Hospital
Humboldt General Hospital now offers access to over 80 healthcare specialties
through a collaboration with Renown Medical Center. Now, instead of requiring
patients to travel to visit with medical specialists, they can access
the skilled professionals they need at our 118 E. Haskell Street facility.
What Is Telemedicine?
Telemedicine is a new branch of medicine that has harnessed the capabilities
of teleconferencing technologies to give patients more access to medical
professionals. With telemedicine sessions, patients can speak to medical
specialists, physicians, and other professionals about their medical concerns
from convenient locations. The use of medical assistants and specially
designed audio and video equipment also allow the conferencing doctors
to assess the patient's health as well.
The Benefits of Telemedicine
Telemedicine is becoming more and more popular for various reasons. Not
only does it offer benefits to the patient, it also has many advantages
for doctors and healthcare facilities.
Just some of the benefits of Telemedicine include:
- Greater access to medical specialists for patients
- Friendly, convenient, high-quality medical consultations
- Reduced cost for patients
- Reduced burden on health care providers and medical facilities
How Telemedicine Works
Humboldt General Hospital’s Telemedicine services give patients access
to trusted medical specialists throughout the State of Nevada—right
here in Winnemucca.
During each appointment, the patient is accompanied by a specially trained
medical assistant who acts as the specialist’s “hands,”
using any medical equipment the specialist calls for to address the patient's
health. The patient can see and speak with the doctor—and the doctor
can see and speak with the patient—just like an in-person check-up.
The special equipment also has audio/visual capabilities so that if the
specialist must examine the patient's body (looking into the ear,
down the throat, etc.) the specialist can see what the equipment records.
Appointment length varies, but many patients complete their session in
about 20 minutes.
